United Petroleum is seeking an experienced and commercially astute National Category Manager Team Lead to drive category performance, supplier strategy and merchandising excellence across our national convenience network.
This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping category strategy, optimising product ranges, leading supplier negotiations and delivering profitable growth through customer-focused ranging, merchandising and promotional programs.
About the Role
* Lead the national category strategy and vision across nominated retail merchandise categories for our convenience store network
* Lead and manage a team of dedicated category managers and category support roles in Australia and our offshore support centre to deliver excellence in convenience retailing
* Drive the right ranging, pricing, promotional programs, NPD and private label development
* Negotiate and manage supplier partnerships, ensuring strong trading terms and 12-month promotional programs
* Identify emerging trends and introduce new categories and exclusive products to create competitive advantage
* Oversee space planning, planograms, new line trials and in-store execution to ensure best in class retailing
* Partner with Marketing and Operations to maximise sales and compliance
* Coach and support Commission Agents and field teams to ensure operational excellence and full compliance to ranging and approved supplier purchasing
* Manage proprietary stock lines and own key distributor relationships
* Provide clear, consistent communication to stores and Retail Performance Leads
* Deliver commercial insights and strategic direction to drive volume, margin and central income; ensuring budgets are achieved
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring United remains the supplier of choice for innovation while maintaining compliance with all relevant safety, OHS and regulatory standards.

* Proven experience in category management within retail or FMCG
* Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management capability
* Deep understanding of consumer behaviour, retail trends and promotional strategy
* Advanced knowledge of category management systems, tools and processes
* Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* A hands‑on leadership style with the ability to coach and influence at all levels
