Overview
The Centre for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna invites applications for a Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies. The position is initially a fixed term with the possibility of progression to a permanent appointment after positive evaluation at the end of the fixed-term period.
Your Workplace
The Centre for Translation Studies has a staff of about 150 researchers and teachers and 10 administrative staff. Research focuses on technologies and socio-cognitive processes in translation and interpreting, and on translation and interpreting in social, institutional and media contexts. Study programmes include the Bachelor’s programme “Transcultural Communication”, Master’s programmes “Translation” and “Multilingual Technologies”, with 14 languages and about 2000 students.
Your Future Tasks
* You hold courses on BA and MA level.
* You contribute to the development of course and examination formats.
* You continuously integrate current state-of-the-art teaching, participate in didactic trainings, and conduct research in periods without courses.
* You will take on administrative tasks, especially in the administration of teaching.
Your Contract
Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week, including a teaching assignment of 10.5 hours of scientific classes on average per semester (21 hours per academic year).
Research-based teaching is included in BA/MA programmes (BA Transcultural Communication and MA Translation). Active working languages include German and two or more other languages from the following: Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, English, French, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Hungarian.
What We Expect
* PhD in Translation Studies or Transcultural Communication.
* Degree in Translation or Interpreting Studies in working languages.
* Several years of teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution.
* Expertise in translation technologies and CAT tools.
* 2 active working languages in addition to German (see list).
* Excellent written and spoken German and English, plus additional working language(s).
* Enthusiasm for teaching and knowledge transfer.
* Expertise in language technologies, localisation, and project management is desirable but not required.
