Organizational Setting
The Department of Safeguards carries out the IAEA’s duties as the world’s nuclear inspectorate, supporting global efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation. The department develops and implements safeguards to ensure no diversion of nuclear material from peaceful activities and no undeclared nuclear activities in a State.
The department includes inspectors, technical staff, and support teams responsible for inspections, analysis, equipment development, laboratory services, information analysis, ICT infrastructure, and program coordination.
Operations Divisions and the Office for Verification in Iran perform safeguards verification activities, including information analysis and in-field verification, to ensure compliance with safeguards commitments.
Main Purpose
Reporting to the Section Head and/or Senior Inspectors, the Safeguards Operations Assistant supports safeguards operations, including development, implementation, reporting, and state evaluation activities for countries with less complex nuclear activities.
Functions / Key Results Expected
1. Assist in preparing and implementing field activities for Inspection and State Evaluation Reports (IRs, SERs) and Safeguards Implementation Reports (SIRs).
2. Manage correspondence with States regarding evaluation and implementation activities, including notification and cover letters for Safeguards Statements.
3. Coordinate field activity plans via SAFIRE and manage inspection documentation and access rights in FAR/eVP.
4. Support organization of briefing and debriefing meetings, take minutes, and track reporting timelines.
5. Manage seals distribution to inspectors, record seals, and follow up on verification results.
6. Consolidate and compile analysis results and documentation for State evaluation.
7. Support drafting, editing, and publishing of SERs.
8. Ensure implementation and compliance with departmental information review recommendations.
9. Provide backup support to other GS staff as needed.

Qualifications, Experience, and Language Skills
* Secondary education completed.
* At least five years of relevant experience.
* Understanding of safeguards confidentiality is an asset.
* Excellent command of English, knowledge of other IAEA languages is a plus.
* Administrative skills test may be part of the process.
Remuneration
