Your Responsibilities
* Design and implementation of approaches to access synthetically challenging targets, such as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and natural products.
* Identification and development of innovative catalytic strategies for the manufacture of pharmaceutically relevant molecules and bioactive heterocycles from lignin.
* Integration of Green Chemistry principles into synthetic approaches, including atom‑economic pathways, mild reaction conditions, high atom‑efficiency, and the use of environmentally friendly reagents, using modern methods (e.g., photo‑ and electrochemistry).
* Comprehensive characterization of intermediates and final products using a variety of analytical techniques (HPLC, GC‑MS, NMR).
* Writing of high‑impact scientific publications and contributing to grant reporting.
* Cooperation within the ‘Institute for Chemistry’ (University of Graz), Graz Technological University (TU Graz) as well as national/international collaboration with academic/industry partners.
Your Profile
* PhD degree in Chemistry, with a strong specialization in synthetic organic chemistry.
* Proven expertise in natural product synthesis, retrosynthesis and homogeneous catalysis.
* Advanced knowledge and hands‑on experience in analytical techniques (HPLC, GC‑MS, NMR).
* Experience integrating Green Chemistry principles and metrics into experiment design.
* Interest in the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass or renewable feedstocks; prior experience is advantageous but not required.
* Excellent written and spoken English skills.
* A strong track record of publications in high‑impact journals.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively and independently in a diverse, interdisciplinary team including the willingness to mentor PhD and Master students.
