About The Role
Glasgow City Health & Social Care Partnership is seeking an experienced and values-driven Clinical Director for Prison Healthcare to provide senior clinical leadership across custodial health services in Glasgow. This is a high-profile, fixed-term opportunity to play a pivotal role in improving health outcomes for some of our most vulnerable populations, while contributing to the strategic leadership of one of the largest Health & Social Care Partnerships in Scotland. The shift pattern for this post is a flexible delivery of 8 hours per week. Salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.
As Clinical Director for Prison Healthcare, you will be a member of the Senior Management Team, contributing to the delivery of the GCHSCP Strategic Plan through effective leadership, clinical governance and partnership working.
You Will Provide Professional Leadership And Clinical Advice To
Senior leaders within GCHSCP
Multi-disciplinary healthcare teams working within prison healthcare
Medical practitioners, GPs and other NHS external contractors across Glasgow City
You will be a strong advocate for multi-disciplinary working, safe and effective care, and the integration of prison healthcare within wider NHS and community services, including mental health and addictions.
The role also involves contributing to strategic planning, clinical quality improvement and the delivery of NHS Board clinical strategies, with a particular focus on governance, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Provide senior clinical leadership for prison healthcare services within Glasgow City
Lead and support clinical and care governance, including quality improvement, audit and learning from incidents, complaints and patient feedback
Support the development and delivery of clinical strategies, service redesign and transformation
Engage constructively with GPs, independent contractors and partner organisations
Represent GCHSCP at local, regional and national forums, including the NHS Scotland Prison and Custodial Healthcare Network
Contribute to strategic planning, risk management and performance management
Support appraisal, revalidation, education and professional development for medical staff
Subject to approval, the postholder may attend or deputise at the GCHSCP Board as a professional adviser.
About You
You will be:
A medical practitioner fully registered with the GMC
An experienced clinical leader with a strong understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement
Skilled in engagement, negotiation and partnership working across organisational boundaries
Confident working in complex systems and leading change in challenging environments
Committed to NHS values and reducing health inequalities
Desirable Experience Includes
Experience as a GP Principal
Previous medical management or senior clinical leadership roles
Experience of service redesign and transformational change
Knowledge of the nGMS contract and primary care systems
