Job Description
We are looking for a person with an excellent record of scientific accomplishments who will represent the field of science and technology studies, aspects of technology assessment, Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), ELSA studies (ethical, legal, and social aspects), and futures studies with a focus on computer science, preferably artificial intelligence, in research and teaching, and who complements and diversifies existing research strengths of the department.
The new professor will teach in the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs of TU Graz, and be an engaged mentor for our students. At the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering, undergraduate courses are taught in German or English, graduate courses are taught in English. In addition, this person will actively participate in academic self‑administration.
The applicant’s research program should aim to advance the profile of Graz University of Technology through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research of high international visibility in several areas of science, technology, and society, with a focus on computer science and preferably artificial intelligence, as well as to examine the role of science and technology in society in order to promote the social shaping of technology with regard to sustainability goals.
The professorship will be part of the Institute of Human‑Centred Computing (HCC). Research and teaching at the HCC focus on the design of human‑computer interactions, artificial intelligence, computer‑assisted approaches to the study of human behaviour and social dynamics, and the constitutive role of digital technologies in society.
The successful candidate is expected to collaborate within the Institute of Human‑Centred Computing (HCC) and the department, and will contribute to projects across all departments of Graz University of Technology. Relocation of the future professor to the greater Graz area (main residence) is required. Applicants should have a strong command of the English language, both written and spoken, to be able to effectively represent the field internationally, and they must also be willing to learn German if they do not already know the language.
Employment Requirements
* A completed doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant field.
* A relevant habilitation (venia docendi) or an equivalent qualification.
* Excellent scientific achievements in STS focusing on Computer Science.
* Excellent didactic and pedagogical skills.
* Management and leadership abilities.
* Excellent command of English, and command of German or the willingness to acquire it.
* Expertise in qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research and a sound understanding of social theory.
* Experience in international collaborations and engagement with the STS community.
* Experience in topics of Computer Science.
Desired Qualification
* Experience in inter‑ and transdisciplinary research.
* International experience and integration in the international research community.
* Experience with acquisition of research grants and/or industrial collaboration.
* Gender and diversity competences.
* Experience in topics of artificial intelligence.
