Overview
Are you passionate about marine mammals and birds? Would you like to work for a star attraction on the Sunshine Coast ensuring that our guests have a magical experience from start to finish? This role is a permanent part-time Keeper with a minimum 20 hours per week. The successful candidate will support the Mammals Manager and team with a diverse range of tasks.
Responsibilities
* Providing exceptional standards of animal husbandry and welfare
* Ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of Seal/Penguin exhibits and off-display areas
* Providing routine cleaning, maintenance and problem solving of Life Support Systems
* Participating in daily husbandry tasks, including training, enrichment, monitoring animal health, and maintaining accurate records
* Providing engaging penguin presentations and guiding animal interactive programs
About You
In order to be successful in this varied role, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the following essential and desirable requirements.
Essential
* At least 2 years’ experience with exhibited marine animals
* Proficient knowledge and application of operant conditioning training principles
* Excellent public speaking and visitor services skills
* Excellent observation and record-keeping skills
* The ability to swim confidently and lift 20 kg
* Hold a valid Blue Card prior to commencement
Desirable
* Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, psychology, a related field or a certificate in captive animal management or similar
* Current driver’s license
* First aid or oxygen resuscitation training
* Experience with seals and penguins
