Role Summary
The Canberra Asphalt business within the Construction Materials segment requires a Senior Accountant for a 12 month period for maternity leave cover.
Reporting to the Finance Business Partner Asphalt, the Senior Accountant will oversee the accounting functions and business finance of the Canberra and Victoria asphalt businesses to ensure accuracy of financial reporting, and compliance with accounting policies and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting
* Assisting in managing accounting team and all aspects of accounting functions
* Reviewing weekly payroll
* Approve bills and wages payments requests in the online banking portal
* Managing month end close procedures across multiple entities including maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register
* Liaising with other departments and establish collaborative working relationships with business areas to improve financial management
* Providing accounting advice to management team proactively or as required
Finance
* Weekly cashflow forecast update and monitor bank balance
* Liaising with banks for vehicle and equipment loan applications and annual renewal of existing revolving equipment finance facilities
* Monitoring and maintaining Bank Guarantee requirements for projects
Tax and Compliance
* Tax compliance preparation and lodgements including BAS, IAS, Payroll tax, FBT in coordination with Maas Tax department
* Regulatory compliance including super, LSL, PAWG, redundancy pay etc.
Reporting
* Preparation of monthly consolidated P & L, balance sheets
* Assisting in preparing EOM reporting package
* Assisting in preparing annual budget and rolling forecast
* Assisting in interpreting financial and non-financial data, providing meaningful commercial insights and recommendations to add value to the company
Ideal Candidate Requirements
* 4+ years' experience of relevant experience with demonstrative skills in financial reporting, tax compliance and payroll
* Degree qualified and CA/CPA membership
* Strong technical accounting skill set and an understanding of accounting standards, tax regulation and relevant legislation
* Excellent communication and writing skills, and the ability to liaise effectively with diverse external and internal stakeholders
* High-level organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload and time management skills under limited direction and supervision
* A clear understanding of the professional ethical and legal responsibilities relevant to the position
* Sound judgement, problem-solving ability, and business acumen
* Great attention to detail, work collaboratively in a team based environment
* The ability to maintain discretion and manage confidentiality
* Asphalt/ Quarries/ Concrete/ Recycling/ Civil Construction background desired
