Join to apply for the Professor of Ancient History role at University of Graz.
The professorship covers the history of Greco-Roman antiquity throughout the Mediterranean region and its neighbouring regions. Applicants are expected to cover the subject in their teaching from the Greek Archaic period to Roman Late Antiquity and, in addition to the relevant bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes, to complement the studies in Archaeology, History and Classical Philology in a modular fashion. Additional research interests in the fields of basic sciences (Epigraphy and/or Numismatics) are preferred. A willingness to cooperate closely in research and teaching with neighbouring disciplines, in particular Archaeology and Classical Philology, and to actively participate in the transdisciplinary and inter-university doctoral programme “Ancient Cultures of the Mediterranean” is required. The successful candidate will contribute to the Faculty’s core research area “Trans-Mediterranean Entanglements ‒ Mobilities and Relations in the Mediterranean and beyond” and the homonymic doctoral programme and to the university’s field of excellence “Dimensions of Europe”.

Employment Requirements
* Austrian or equivalent foreign higher education degree corresponding with the position (doctorate/PhD)
* Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Ancient History
* Ability to be responsible for the subject of Ancient History in its entirety (Greek and Roman history) in research and teaching, which must be proven by previous publications
* Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline and for the profile of the professorship (commensurate with stage of academic career and interruptions in employment due to caring responsibilities)
* Success in attracting subject-specific project grants, particularly where competitively awarded third-party funds are concerned
* Skills in higher education didactics including the use of digital media
* Skills in the supervision and guidance of early career researchers
* Professional experience abroad during academic career
* Management and leadership experience
* Gender mainstreaming and diversity management skills
* Good knowledge of German and English or willingness to acquire the missing language competence within three years
* Willingness to participate in academic self-administration
* International networking
* International publication and lecture activities
