Pastamara - Bar con Cucina is an exciting new Sicilian‑inspired concept in the heart of Vienna. We are looking for a passionate sommelier to craft exceptional wine experiences and elevate dining moments with unmatched service.
Job Overview
The Ritz‑Carlton, Vienna partners with Pastamara as a dedicated hospitality brand to deliver luxury wine service within our Sicilian cuisine. The role is based in Vienna and requires strong wine knowledge, excellent communication, and an ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, 5‑star setting.
Responsibilities
* Provide personalized, anticipatory wine service in alignment with The Ritz‑Carlton Gold Standards.
* Welcome and engage guests with warmth and professionalism, creating meaningful connections through wine.
* Curate and recommend wine pairings that complement the restaurant’s Sicilian cuisine and seasonal menus.
* Present and describe wines with confidence, sharing knowledge about regions, producers, vintages, and styles.
* Manage tableside wine service, including proper presentation, opening, decanting, and pouring.
* Maintain and continuously develop deep knowledge of the wine list, including Sicilian and Italian wines.
* Assist in maintaining the wine cellar, including inventory management, storage standards, and organization.
* Collaborate closely with the culinary and service teams to create harmonious food and wine experiences.
* Support wine list development with the Head Sommelière and participate in tastings, supplier meetings and wine education initiatives.
* Participate in pre‑shift briefings, ongoing training and service development programs.
Qualifications
* Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a Sommelier/Sommelière or wine‑focused service professional in a fine dining or luxury hospitality environment.
* Strong knowledge of Italian wines, particularly Sicilian wines and regional grape varieties.
* Formal wine education preferred (WSET Level 2/3, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent certification).
* Excellent communication, storytelling and guest engagement skills.
* Passion for wine, gastronomy, and delivering memorable guest experiences.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to perform gracefully in a fast‑paced, luxury environment.
* Experience with wine cellar management and inventory control is an advantage.
* Fluent in English and German; Italian language skills highly desirable.
