Reports to: Business President
In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a global division with full, undiluted responsibility across the entire value chain. You will shape the future of ABB’s Machine Automation business, taking end-to-end ownership for profitable growth, strategy definition, and disciplined execution, fully aligned with ABB Group and Business Area priorities.
A central mandate of this role is to lead a comprehensive business transformation, restoring and sustainably improving profitability, strengthening competitiveness, and fully leveraging synergies across ABB’s product, solutions, software, systems, and services portfolio. You will steer the division through strategic, operational, and cultural transformation to unlock performance, scalability, and long-term value creation.
Each day, you will demonstrate strong enterprise leadership by allocating resources globally in the best interest of ABB, accelerating innovation, driving operational excellence, and ensuring consistent value delivery to customers, shareholders, and employees. Key internal stakeholders include Business Area leadership, ABB Executive Committee, the Group CEO, and, where relevant, Board members.
Responsibilities
* Setting and executing a clear, customer- and market-driven strategy to deliver sustainable profitable growth, margin expansion, and capital efficiency globally.
* Leading a multi-year transformation agenda, including:
o Restoration and acceleration of profitability
o Portfolio optimization and focus
o Cost, complexity, and organizational effectiveness improvements
o Stronger go-to-market execution and lifecycle monetization
* Driving and delivering the end-to-end product, solutions, systems, software, and services strategy, including innovation, R&D prioritization, and time-to-market excellence.
* Running the business end-to-end, from front-end market engagement to back-end operations, with full P&L responsibility for the division.
* Unlocking synergies across ABB, leveraging shared platforms, technologies, digital capabilities, global operations, and cross-division collaboration to maximize customer and business value.
* Accelerating organic growth through deeper market penetration, enhanced customer value propositions, and differentiated solutions.
* Driving inorganic growth, identifying and pursuing M&A, partnerships, and joint ventures aligned with strategic priorities.
* Building, developing, and inspiring a high-performing global leadership team, with strong succession planning and a relentless focus on people development.
* Role-modeling ABB Values and fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, collaboration, safety, and inclusion.
Qualifications (mandatory)
* Proven senior leadership experience in industrial automation, electrification, motion, robotics, or digital solutions, with a strong track record of leading global businesses and complex transformations.
* Demonstrated success in restoring and scaling profitability, managing performance across product, solutions, and service businesses.
* Deep understanding of OEM-led business models, platform-based portfolios, and lifecycle value creation.
* Strong experience managing large-scale global operations, including R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, project execution, and services.
* Passion for people development, with a track record of building high-performing, diverse, and inclusive leadership teams.
* Impeccable role model of ABB Values, with the courage to make decisive choices and lead change.
* University degree in mechanical, electrical, software engineering, or a related technical field; an advanced degree is an advantage.
* Fluent in English and German, written and spoken
