Organizational setting

The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme's objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes. The Division of Human Health is organized into four Sections whose objectives are to enhance the capabilities of Member States to address needs related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of health problems through the development and application of nuclear techniques within a framework of quality assurance.


Main purpose

Under the supervision of the Divisional Director, the Project Implementation Officer serves as focal point for coordinating and implementing NAHU critical projects St Jude operations under the Rays of Hope Initiative, within the planned timelines and assigned budget. They contribute to the coordination and optimization of projects and processes within the Division and assist in analysis, review of various reports and correspondence, monitor the allocated budgets, report and provide analytical support on tasks implemented.


Role

Project Implementation Officer roles include: (1) a team member preparing, reviewing, and maintaining detailed work plans and schedules of project activities, developing and maintaining tools for tracking resource allocation, monitoring status of activities, and contributing to project reports; (2) a coordinator providing input and support and developing expertise to ensure successful project implementation; (3) a liaison with technical subject matter experts and other stakeholders fostering collaboration between departments/offices and external stakeholders.


Functions / Key Results Expected

* In close collaboration with the team, provide technical assistance to the Division on project development and delivery, identifying and implementing approaches and techniques to achieve project targets
* Create a detailed project plan identifying and sequencing activities and including a schedule that effectively allocates available resources
* Execute and coordinate implementation according to the project plan, document project activities and ensure that all project information is appropriately filed and secured
* Act as focal point of contact for key external bodies as well as other IAEA stakeholders (such as TC, NACA, OLA). Prepare presentations for governing bodies like the CCRA and work with other departments on funding proposals. Coordinate for working group activities
* Monitor budgeted project expenditures in consultation with the AA and Sections, ensuring deliverables are on time, within budget and to the required quality. Contribute to resource mobilization activities, propose activities/projects needing additional funding and identify funding options
* Evaluate, consolidate and disseminate technical project information among project team members and counterparts, supporting the team in the implementation of technical project activities and the development of final reports
* Conduct analysis and propose solutions and recommendations for issues identified in the course of work. Assess progress towards achieving project results in line with quality management standards.

Qualifications, Experience And Language Skills

* Bachelor's Degree - Business Administrations, International Relations, Project Management or related field.
* Minimum of five years of working experience in project management
* Experience coordinating programmatic activities related to education and training
* Experience coordinating institutional networks
* Experience drafting and consolidating briefing notes and reporting
* Interpersonal skills: ability to establish and maintain good relationships with internal and external counterparts and to work as a team in a multicultural environment with respect and sensitivity for diversity.
* Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.


Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $70,212 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $39,389, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses. Other benefits include 6 weeks\' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
