Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide leadership and guidance to the Radionuclide Unit, fostering a collaborative and team‑oriented work environment, supervise, coach, mentor and evaluate staff, and coordinate work activities.
* Plan, implement and monitor the Unit’s work programme within the allocated budget ensuring alignment with the priorities of the Section, Division and the Commission.
* Lead and supervise the timely development and implementation of processes, procedures, and reporting mechanisms to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the IMS network.
* Provide scientific, engineering and technical advice on all matters related to the establishment, sustainment and operation of the radionuclide component of the IMS, and manage radionuclide projects as required.
* Oversee the management of multiple concurrent, complex radionuclide projects globally across the IMS Network.
* Supervise, coordinate and conduct site surveys, site preparation, installation, status assessments, certification, revalidation and post‑certification support of radionuclide stations and laboratories, including the preparation and presentation of relevant documentation, scientific and technical reports.
* Identify required actions, and supervise and coordinate solutions to ensure the proper functioning of radionuclide facilities.
* Supervise, coordinate and conduct activities supporting radionuclide monitoring station operations with emphasis on long‑term sustainment of high data quality and availability.
* Liaise with government officials, designated institutions and contractors as required.
* Coordinate, supervise and participate in scientific, engineering and technical meetings aimed at improving the performance of radionuclide facilities within the IMS.
* Prepare and present materials for Commission meetings, IMS training programmes, and technical workshops and conferences.
* Collaborate on advanced studies on next‑generation radionuclide stations and provide support to develop solutions to enhance the sustainability of the radionuclide network.
* Perform other duties as assigned.


Education

* Advanced university degree in nuclear physics, engineering or a related field.


Work Experience and Qualifications

* At least seven (7) years of progressive increase in responsibility within relevant working experience on radionuclide monitoring or a related field, preferably part of which should have been at an international level.
* Experience in radionuclide monitoring technology development is desirable.
* Demonstrated supervisory and team management experience is essential.
* Demonstrated experience in project management is essential.
* Sound level of judgement, responsibility and initiative is essential.
* Strong ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment is essential.
* Proven ability to build relevant strategic partnerships and alliances with key stakeholders and partners is essential.
* Ability to design and manage complex, result‑based technical assistance programmes/projects, preferably in the radionuclide field, is essential.


Languages

* Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential.
* Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

Remuneration

CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission. The salary offered may be subject to deductions to the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and/or Health Insurance Scheme.
