Vuly is an Australian-owned outdoor play company designing category-leading products used by families worldwide. We are known for engineering‑driven design, high safety standards, and products that ship at scale across global markets.
This is not a conceptual studio. What we design gets manufactured, tested, certified, and delivered. Fast.
The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Industrial Design Director to lead our product design function in Brisbane.
You will report directly to the CEO and play a critical role in ensuring multiple major products are designed, developed, and delivered on time for key seasonal launches, including Christmas.
This role is about coaching, clarity, and execution at scale .
At any given time, Vuly may have up to 10 products in active development, each led by an individual Industrial Designer. Each designer is supported by:
A dedicated DFM specialist based in Malaysia
A broader shared services group of plastics engineers, toolmakers, and safety specialists across Kuala Lumpur and China
Your role is to guide, unblock, and elevate the design team so products move smoothly from concept through to production without slipping timelines.
What You Will Do Lead and coach a team of Industrial Designers, each owning a product in development
Help designers navigate design, manufacturability, and execution challenges
Ensure products progress on time through design, DFM, tooling, and production
Translate clear design parameters and brand direction set by the CEO into executable outcomes
Maintain consistency with Vuly’s design language and product standards
Support designers through reviews, decisions, and trade‑offs without micromanaging
Work independently once established in the role, with minimal ongoing oversight
Collaborate closely with DFM, engineering, tooling, and safety teams across Asia
This role is not about personally designing every product. It is about multiplying the output and effectiveness of the team.
How This Role Actually Works Design direction and brand parameters come from the CEO
Once aligned, you operate independently
CEO interaction is typically limited to high‑level alignment and monthly check‑ins
Success is measured primarily by products shipping on time, especially for peak seasons
What We’re Looking For 10+ years professional experience in Industrial or Product Design
Proven experience designing real products that go to mass production
Strong understanding of plastics, tooling, and manufacturing processes
A refined design sensibility with an appreciation for functional, restrained design (Braun‑style principles)
Confidence leading senior designers without hovering or bottlenecking
Ability to coach, guide, and course‑correct without slowing teams down
High proficiency in SolidWorks and Autodesk Fusion 360
Comfortable working under real commercial timelines and pressure
Reliable, consistent leadership style with strong follow‑through
Australian work rights and full‑time availability at our Wakerley office are required.
Why This Role Is Different You report directly to the CEO, not buried under layers
You lead multiple high‑impact products at once
You work with established global manufacturing support, not chaos
You are trusted to run the function, not managed day‑to‑day
Your work ships, at scale, to real customers worldwide
