AITHYRA is a new, dynamic institute in Vienna, Austria, dedicated to advancing a biomedical revolution by connecting cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence with transformative Life Science research. Supported through generous funding from the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and hosted by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, AITHYRA is building a world-class environment where AI specialists, experimental scientists, and engineers collaborate to push the boundaries of biomedical innovation. In February 2025, AITHYRA moved into its first laboratory and office space in the Marxbox at the Vienna BioCenter. In cooperation with the Vienna Business Agency, a new, jointly developed research building will be built by 2029.

As we build our operations from the ground up, we are seeking a proactive and versatile IT Support Engineer to help lay the foundation of our IT infrastructure and support services. This is a unique opportunity to be instrumental in shaping our IT landscape from day one, supporting a broad spectrum of technologies and users in a dynamic startup environment.
As a founding IT Support Engineer at AITHYRA, you will be the first and second line of support for our growing user base. In this role, you won't just maintain; you'll help build and define our IT support processes. You will address a wide range of IT-related concerns, diagnose problems, implement solutions, and contribute significantly to establishing our IT operations. Initial responsibilities will span many different IT areas as we grow.
* Be a primary point of contact for IT support at AITHYRA, providing prompt and efficient assistance to users via a ticketing system (potentially helping to set it up!) and in person.
* Identify, diagnose, and resolve a broad array of IT issues, encompassing hardware and software problems, network connectivity, and user account management. This includes significant focus on supporting users and managing aspects of the Microsoft 365 suite.
* Assist in setting up and standardizing IT procedures and policies as the institute grows.
* Technical support for internal Events (Seminars, Lectures and Workshops)
* Escalate complex issues to internal specialists or external vendors as appropriate, helping to define escalation paths.
* Support the procurement of IT equipment and manage asset tracking, contributing to the establishment of our configuration management database.
* Set up new computers using standard OS-images (Windows, Linux, and Mac), potentially helping to refine imaging and deployment processes.
* Managing devices via MDM solutions like Microsoft Intune/Jamf as well as Endpoint Security via Microsoft Defender.
* Document troubleshooting steps, solutions, and newly established procedures to build a comprehensive knowledge base from scratch.
* Stay informed about emerging IT trends and technologies, particularly those relevant to our operational needs and growth, contributing ideas for future IT development.
Your Profile
* At least 3 years of experience in end-user or customer IT support.
* Strong technical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to quickly learn new systems and tackle diverse IT challenges.
* Proven ability to support and manage aspects of the Microsoft 365 environment, including user administration and common application issues.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and patiently with users at all technical levels in a diverse, academic research environment.
* Proficient in supporting users on Windows, Linux, and macOS operating systems and common business/research applications.
* Familiarity with basic network troubleshooting and security best practices.
* Experience or strong interest in helping to define and implement IT processes and workflows; familiarity with IT service management principles (like ITIL) is a plus, but adaptability and a willingness to build are key.
* A proactive, self-starter attitude with a strong desire to learn continuously, take ownership, and contribute significantly to building an IT function from the ground up in a startup environment.
