Design Engineer (m/f/d | 80%–100%)
Weir Minerals
Location: Baden – Switzerland
Work model: Hybrid (high flexibility, part-time possible)
Design Engineer
As a Design Engineer at Weir, you will work on the technical development and implementation of our Enduron Vertical Stirred Mills—highly complex machines used for energy-efficient grinding of ore and mineral raw materials in the mining industry.
Our mills are deployed worldwide in large industrial plants to finely grind raw materials, a critical step in making metals such as copper or gold usable. In this role, you will contribute to technologies that play a key role in global resource supply and the energy transition.
Weir is a global engineering company with a strong focus on sustainable technologies for mining and infrastructure, and a market leader in many product segments.
Your responsibilities
In this role, you will work hands-on on real machines and assemblies and take ownership of concrete engineering deliverables:
Design & Engineering
1. Create and further develop 3D CAD models and assemblies (e.g., structural components, drive systems, housings)
2. Design components considering load cases, tolerances, materials, and manufacturability
3. Produce detailed manufacturing drawings including GD&T, welding specifications, and surface requirements
Documentation & Data Management
4. Create and maintain bills of materials (BOM), data packages, and technical documentation
5. Work with PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter) to manage revisions and approvals
6. Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (ISO, internal standards) and customer requirements
Engineering Changes & Lifecycle
7. Initiate and manage Engineering Change Notices (ECN)
8. Track changes from concept through implementation in production and aftermarket
9. Support the standardization of components and assemblies
Project & Stakeholder Collaboration
10. Adapt standard designs to project-specific customer requirements (design-to-order)
11. Collaborate closely with manufacturing, procurement, quality management, and global engineering teams
12. Participate in design reviews, risk analyses (FMEA), and technical clarifications
Safety First
13. Demonstrate 100% commitment to “Zero Harm” behavior and contribute to a world-class safety culture
Your focus will be on engineering execution, technical quality, and the practical applicability of your designs.
What makes this role special
14. You work on real machines, not just concepts
15. You see the direct impact of your work
16. You can deepen your technical expertise or grow into project responsibility
