Role
GR&C – EIB Group Model Validation Division (VAL) – Credit, Capital and ALM Model Validation Unit (CCV) – TRAINEE.
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2026; possible extension up to 6 months if required by University). The traineeship programme aims to attract applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. Please limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications; only the first three applications will be considered.
Objective of the traineeship
During this traineeship, you will contribute to the development of a modern and automated framework that supports the validation of the EIB Group’s credit risk models. You will design and implement Python‑based tools that streamline key validation activities, such as data preparation, data cleansing, statistical testing, and model performance analysis. Working alongside experienced model validators, you will gain hands‑on exposure to how the EIB validates portfolio credit risk models (both analytic and Monte Carlo) and how model‑risk management is applied within a major EU financial institution. This traineeship is an opportunity for you to deepen your technical skills, understand real‑world financial applications, and contribute to tools that enhance efficiency and consistency across recurring validation exercises.
Responsibilities
* Design and implement Python‑based tools that automate data processing, recurring validation tests, and analytical routines used for portfolio credit risk model validation.
* Help build and document a structured library of validation codes, ensuring clear methodology, consistency, and reproducibility.
* Support senior validation officers in developing quantitative tests, including hypothesis testing, back‑testing, performance analysis, robustness/stability checks, and credit‑risk‑parameter assessments.
* Prepare datasets, run validation routines, analyse outputs, and help produce inputs for validation reports across various assignments.
* Contribute to improving the automation, documentation, and transparency of model‑validation processes.
Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills
* Final year of studies or university degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Finance.
* Interest in financial applications. Possibly a first experience in a financial institution. Strong computer skills in at least one of Python, R, Matlab.
* Excellent knowledge of standard M365 applications.
* Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
