We are seeking a technically strong and visionary AI Lead Engineer to architect and build our AI capabilities within the clinical and hospital domain. You will be responsible for building a top-tier AI team, delivering impactful AI/ML solutions, and working closely with software engineers, IT teams, clinicians, and operational leads to ensure integration, usability, and real-world value.
This is a high-impact role at the intersection of AI engineering, health technology, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and lead the development of AI solutions, from prototypes to production systems, using structured and unstructured healthcare data.
2. Build scalable, secure ML pipelines and deploy models into real-world clinical or operational workflows.
3. Hire, mentor, and manage a growing team of AI engineers, data scientists, and ML specialists.
4. Establish engineering best practices for AI development, MLOps, model versioning, and continuous delivery.
5. Collaborate closely with product managers, clinical leaders, hospital operations, and the broader development department to align AI efforts with platform architecture, software design, and user-facing applications.
6. Work with software engineers to integrate AI functionality into clinical apps, backend services, and internal tools.
7. Communicate technical and strategic decisions to stakeholders in both engineering and non-technical domains.
8. Apply state-of-the-art AI platforms such as OpenAI, Gemini, or Anthropic to build LLM-powered tools.
9. Champion the use of AI developer tools like GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, and prompt engineering frameworks to accelerate team efficiency.
10. Lead evaluations of open-source tools and cloud-based platforms to continuously evolve our AI ecosystem.
11. Define requirements for data ingestion, curation, and access in partnership with IT and DevOps.
12. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and promote responsible AI practices.
Qualifications
13. 3+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or software development, with a strong track record of delivering production AI systems.
14. Hands-on experience with modern LLMs and AI platforms (OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, etc.).
15. Proven leadership in building AI products and/or teams, ideally in healthcare or similarly complex domains.
16. Strong coding skills in Python and relevant ML tooling (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain).
17. Experience with MLOps practices and tools (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, Docker, CI/CD).
18. Comfortable navigating cross-functional environments and translating technical plans into cross-team action.
19. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.

If you feel addressed by this opportunity, we offer a gross annual salary starting at €62.800,-. Our compensation is aligned with the IT collective agreement.
