Assistant Professorship (all genders) - Tenure Track Web Security

The Faculty of Informatics at TU Wien is one of the leading Informatics faculties in Europe, consistently ranked among the top institutions in the field. With over 80 professors at various career levels and a strong commitment to research excellence, the faculty fosters an innovative and collaborative academic environment.

The Faculty of Informatics at TU Wien invites applications for a full time Assistant Professorship (all genders) with Tenure Track in Web Security. This position is affiliated with the Institute of Logic and Computation, Research Unit Security and Privacy, and is expected to start in December 2025. The work contract is initially limited to six years. The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to an Associate Professorship with an unlimited contract.


Tasks

We invite applications from candidates in the area of System Security, with a focus on Web Security. The successful candidate should have an international research experience, a strong publication record in top-tier conferences, experience in acquiring competitive third-party funding, and a clear vision for future research. We particularly seek candidates who will complement our existing expertise and foster collaborations within the Faculty of Informatics and across TU Wien.

In addition to research, the role includes teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels (in English and German) and contributing to faculty service and management tasks. The candidate should have a proven track record of excellent teaching abilities, and implement hands on and gamification approaches in their courses. The candidate will also contribute to the activities of the newly established TU Wien Cybersecurity Center and coordinate national and international cybersecurity educational and outreach initiatives with strong real-world societal impact, such as the and similar projects.


Your profile

Applicants are expected to have the following qualifications:

* PhD or equivalent degree in Computer Science or a related field
* Postdoctoral experience at a university or research institution
* Outstanding research and publication record in System Security, focusing on Web Security
* Established reputation in the international research community (e.g., conference chairing, program committee membership)
* Proven success in securing competitive research funding (e.g., WWTF)
* Excellence in academic teaching (classes and lab courses), with a focus on learning-by-doing concepts using gamification approaches
* Experience in co-supervising PhD students
* Strong background in Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions
* Proven track record in training and leading national and international ethical hacking teams
* Proven track record in coordinating large-scale national and international ethical hacking programs with strong societal impact
* Engagement in industry-academic collaborations through contributions to Web security standards, vulnerability disclosures, and participation in specialized events
* Excellent communication skills in English
* Administrative and organizational abilities
* Commitment to gender sensitivity and social skills
* Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
* Experience in science communication
* Willingness to learn German if not already proficient

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 4,932.90 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 5,808.20 gross (14 x per year).We look forward to receiving your application until October 2nd, 2025.
