Huawei's Boltzmann Research Center (Vienna) is responsible for advanced magnetic technology research, material and process development, design and strategic engineering of our magnetic component.

We focus on the development of soft magnetic materials, permanent magnetic materials, and components which applied in Huawei's ICT products including power supply, wireless communication, etc. Through insight into global magnetic technologies and independent research, we aspire to explore and make breakthroughs in fundamental theories and technologies e.g., computation and simulation, formula design, molding process, etc.

Senior Engineer – Power Electronics/Magnetic Design (m/f/d)

Your mission

As a Senior Power Electronics & Magnetics Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design of high-density, board-mounted power supplies. You will push the limits of W/in³ through advanced packaging and high-frequency switching (MHz range), developing Point-of-Load (PoL) converters, VRMs, and isolated/non-isolated DC-DC modules that power the next generation of processors.

* Design & Optimization: Design compact AC-DC and DC-DC converters directly onto multi-layer PCBs, optimizing for footprint, efficiency, and thermal performance. Propose new concepts, design and optimize magnetic components such as inductors, transformers, based on simulation results, ensuring performance and efficiency.

* Magnetic Field Modeling & Simulation: Perform detailed 2D/3D magnetic field simulations to analyze and optimize the design of electromagnetic components and systems.

* Custom Magnetics Integration: Design and optimize "on-board" magnetics, including planar transformers, integrated inductors, coupled inductors, etc.

* Prototyping & Testing Support: Collaborate with hardware engineers and prototype teams to validate simulation results with physical testing and assist in troubleshooting and resolving any discrepancies between simulated and measured data.

* Tool Development & Automation: Develop custom simulation tools, scripts, and workflows to automate and streamline the simulation process for efficiency and consistency.

* Establish and maintain cooperation with industrial institutions and universities in Europe.

Your areas of expertise

* Educational Background: Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering (Focus on Power Electronics or magnetics), or a related field.

* Experience: Hands-on experience with power supply design, specifically for data centers, telecommunications, or high-performance computing.

* Technical Expertise:

o Proficient in PCB design tools for high-density power routing, simulation tools like Comsol.

o Expertise in high density planar magnetics design and manufacturing techniques and processes.

o Deep knowledge of topologies like buck, boost, LLC.

* Skills & Knowledge:

o Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, and electromagnetics.

o Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automating simulations and data analysis.

o Experience with multi-physics simulations that involve thermal, mechanical, and electrical

o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

o Fluency in written and spoken English.
