The Laboratory Operations Manager is responsible for day-to-day operation of laboratory environments, ensuring laboratory readiness, correct supply flows, equipment and consumables coordination, and compliant waste management. The role supports both GMP and non‑GMP laboratory activities and provides hands‑on operational support to enable scientific, technical, and manufacturing teams to work efficiently and safely.
Our client is a GMP-focused biotechnology organisation operating laboratory environments to support scientific, technical, and manufacturing needs. As part of the Laboratory Operations Manager role, you will work closely with their Quality and Manufacturing teams to ensure lab readiness and compliance.
Benefits
* Own lab readiness in strict GMP environments: ensure equipment is set up, running, and supported, and that any additional daily needs for the chemistry/radiochemistry teams are covered so operations run seamlessly
* Centralised function built from the ground up: this is a first‑of‑its‑kind centralisation – bring structure, controls, and reliability as the facility scales
* Fix the baseline, then scale the model: establish the baseline controls, learn existing processes, and help move toward a more unified operating model (including crossover where relevant)
* High‑impact vendor and stakeholder management: negotiate and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors, especially where specialised equipment is sourced via international shipments
Key Responsibilities
* Lead day-to-day laboratory operations across sites, ensuring laboratory readiness and support for scientific/technical teams
* Own consumables & equipment coordination, storage, and compliant waste management across GMP and non‑GMP activities
* Ensure GMP‑compliant documentation/traceability and appropriate material handling in partnership with Quality/Manufacturing
* Coordinate domestic and international logistics (receiving, freight, customs, transportation) for equipment/materials and external/international partners
* Manage inventory, stock control, and laboratory procurement (sourcing/purchasing consumables, reagents, and lab equipment)
* Lead/develop a small operational support team and implement operational efficiency/process improvements
Key Skills & Experience
* Relevant tertiary qualification in Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations Management, Business, Science, or related field (highly regarded)
* Demonstrated laboratory operations, procurement, logistics, or operational support experience in highly regulated environments (e.g., biotech/pharma/healthcare/manufacturing)
* Strong procurement/supply chain capability for sourcing lab equipment, consumables, reagents, and operational services
* Experience coordinating domestic/international shipping, freight, customs processes, and inventory/logistics in fast‑paced operations
* Strong stakeholder management and communication across scientific, technical, operational, and corporate teams
* Ability to work in strict GMP laboratory environments with strong documentation, traceability, and material handling focus
