Job Title: Signalling Functional Design Engineer
I'm supporting a rapidly growing technology company in the rail industry that's looking for a Functional Design Engineer to join their team in Munich.
Location: Munich
Length: 12 months+
Working type: On-site
Key responsibilities include:
1. Designing and specifying system architectures, interfaces, and conducting detailed technical analyses
2. Writing clear, testable functional specifications aligned with safety and performance requirements
3. Validating functional requirements and ensuring full trace-ability across design documentation
4. Supporting hardware/software development and configuration activities
5. Preparing documentation in line with project standards, milestones, and regulatory frameworks
6. Contributing to continuous improvement of engineering processes and tools
Required skills:
7. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
8. 3+ year's experience in interlocking systems or ETCS (European Train Control System)
9. Solid understanding of railway signalling technology, including interlocking systems, block systems, operational safety, and regulatory principles
10. Familiarity with safety-critical system development processes, including the V-model software life cycle
11. Experience with tools such as IBM DOORS and Polarion
12. Programming/scripting knowledge in C, C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink for prototyping, simulation, or automated testing would be a bonus
