Intern: Security Risk Management, Vienna, Austria
This post is located in the United Nations Security and Safety Service (UNSSS), Division for Management (DM) of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). The Intern reports to the Chief, UNSSS through the Assistant Chief. The position supports the work of the Security and Safety Service. The internship is for six (6) months with a desired starting date in January 2026. The position will be UNPAID and full‑time, i.e., five days (40 hours per week) under the supervision of the Assistant Chief, coordinator of the Security Risk Management Team. Responsibilities
* Monitor and collect daily security‑related information from open sources and prepare summaries or highlight relevant developments.
* Conduct research on security‑related topics and assist in drafting analytical assessments, reports, and briefing notes.
* Provide support to the Pass and ID Unit, including assisting with badge photo processing and related administrative tasks on a weekly basis.
* Assist in drafting a wide range of documents, including reports, communication materials, background papers, and data inputs for presentations or dashboards.
* Assist the Office of the Chief with functions related to project planning and coordination.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Special Skills
* Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate‑school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
* A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
* Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
* Ability to conduct research on various topics is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
