University: Johannes Kepler University Linz
Country: Austria
Deadline: Not specified
Fields: Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology
The Tiemann-Boege Lab at the Institute of Biophysics, Johannes Kepler University Linz, is inviting applications for multiple research positions, including AG-Practical Training, Master Thesis, and Ph.D. Thesis opportunities. The lab focuses on advanced research areas such as DNA repeat instability, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, next-generation sequencing, and computational data analysis utilizing AI tools.
Successful candidates will join an international, English-speaking team and collaborate with researchers from the Vienna BioCenter, ISTA, and JKU. The research addresses critical questions in meiotic recombination and mutagenesis using state-of-the-art methodologies.
Research Background
Meiotic recombination hotspots are dynamic DNA regions that undergo genetic exchange during reproduction and are subject to rapid evolution and mutation. This project uses error-corrected, highly parallel sequencing to investigate the mechanisms driving mutations in meiotic yeast cells, with comparisons to other genomic regions and mitotic cells, contributing to the understanding of mutation-related diseases.
Requirements
– Academic background in molecular biology, biophysics, genetics, bioinformatics, biotechnology, or related fields
– Interest in hands-on training with next-generation sequencing and advanced molecular biology techniques
– Motivation to gain experience with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and computational analysis
– Ability to work in an international research environment
What Is Offered
– Training in next-generation sequencing and advanced molecular biology methods
– Practical experience with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing
– Opportunities for computational analysis in collaboration with leading experts
– A dynamic and collaborative research environment within an Austrian consortium
Starting Date: September 2025 (flexible upon agreement)
