What is the Opportunity?
Aecon’s Civil East sector specializes in heavy civil construction, delivering projects like bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports. In the US Virgin Islands (USVI), we are working on the redevelopment of Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas and Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix.
We are looking for a talented Commercial Lead to join our USVI project team. Based in USVI, this role manages subcontracting, negotiations, project costs, and risks, including drafting contracts and invoicing. It is primarily office-based (~90%), with 10% on-site for meetings and assessments.
What You’ll Do Here:
* Manage contract notices, administer contracts, negotiate design and subcontracts, and optimize financial and legal positions.
* Implement procurement schedules, participate in tendering, evaluate bids, and develop terms and conditions.
* Report on commercial issues to executives and project managers, and consult legal advisors as needed.
* Analyze project risks, manage change processes, and oversee project close-out activities.
* Depending on the project phase, may oversee Project Controls functions.
* Maintain good understanding of finance, accounting, and project reporting.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
* Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Finance, Legal, or related fields.
* At least 3 years of relevant commercial management experience in construction.
* Flexibility to work both in the field and office.
* Experience with various contract types and a good understanding of construction methodologies.
* Knowledge of change management, contract law, and project administration.
* Experience with tendering, procurement, and scheduling software (Primavera P6 preferred).
* Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders and work independently.
