The tasks of the Monetary Policy Section (MP) are to provide policy advice to senior management and to conduct applied research. The former includes providing support to senior management in the form of monetary policy briefings for the meetings of the ECB Governing Council as well as various ad-hoc requests on monetary and inflation related issues. In addition, the MP addresses monetary policy and inflation issues that form the basis for our research. On the basis of the latest findings in economic theory and its empirical methods, as well as our own research, we monitor, analyze and research monetary and inflation policy issues. In addition to numerous internal and external scientific publications, this feed also results in presentations at conferences and the development of instruments for monitoring, indicators, and data interfaces. Post-doc Economist Full-time or part-time min. 50%; temporary position until May 31, 2028 Referenzbezeichnung: 5065 Your tasks * Prepare and present monetary policy briefings for OeNB senior management * Contribute to policy notes, presentations, ad-hoc reports and speeches for OeNB senior management * Conduct independent research on monetary policy, supporting both ongoing and future policy-relevant discussions * Produce well-founded, policy-oriented analyses, studies and research papers for OeNB official publications and other relevant external publications * Develop and maintain models for policy analysis, along with analytical tools such as dashboards * Participate in Eurosystem-wide taskforces, research networks or expert groups on monetary policy-related topics Your Background * A Ph.D. in economics, finance or a closely related field * Strong interest in monetary policy analysis and research * Experience and interest in monetary policy operations, implementation and their interaction with financial/money markets are considered an asset * Prior professional experience (e.g. traineeships) in central banking and monetary policy-making would also be considered an asset * Proficiency in advanced software packages such as R, Stata, Python or Matlab * Experience working with large datasets and familiarity with quantitative methods commonly used in economic research, such as micro-econometric panel data techniques and macro time series analysis * Excellent presentation and communication skills * A collaborative mindset with a commitment to supporting team objectives and fostering open, trusting relationships within and across teams * Working languages are English and German, so a basic knowledge of German and a willingness to learn it quickly is required What we offer * Challenging tasks in an international environment * Working in a large economic institution in Austria with a strong research focus and international institutional networks * A wide variety of training and career possibilities * Family-friendly work policies (e.g. company kindergarten, holiday camps for children of staff) * Easy access to public transport * Benefits include flexible working hours and working from home, a staff restaurant, in-house medical care, corporate fitness benefits, etc. * Weekly normal working hours of 38.5 hours, separate overtime pay According to Austrian law, it is required to post a minimum salary, which for this position is 64.575 EUR (PhD-Level) for full-time (38.5h/week).
