Background
The OSCE has a comprehensive security framework that covers politico‑military, economic, environmental, and human aspects, addressing concerns such as arms control, confidence‑building measures, human rights, combating trafficking, national minorities, democratization, policing, counter‑terrorism, and economic/environmental activities. The OSCE Secretariat in Vienna, including the Office of the Secretary General, provides operational and administrative support to the Chairmanship and coordinates tasks across the Secretariat. Conference and Language Services supports the decision‑making bodies with interpretation, translation, document control, editing, and terminology work. The Language Technology Assistant position is located in Conference and Language Services under the Office of the Secretary General and is responsible for the technical and organizational aspects of computer‑assisted translation (CAT) and machine/AI translation tools and terminology work.
Tasks And Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief Linguist, the successful candidate will:
* Support and coordinate the CAT and machine/AI translation tools work of Language Assistants.
* Review CAT and machine/AI translation workflows and propose improvements.
* Administer the ticketing process for external language technology providers.
* Coordinate with ICT on updates and technical aspects of language technology tools used at LS.
* Provide support and advice to Language Assistants, freelance translators, and editors on terminology work.
* Implement technical aspects of terminology workflows such as splitting and merging term bases and coordinating their review and integration with the central term base.
* Act as a focal point for requests to add, delete or correct entries in the central term base.
* Maintain, update, and ensure data integrity of term bases and related files.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Necessary Qualifications
* Completed secondary education.
* Minimum of 4 years of working experience in language technology; a university degree in a relevant field may be considered as a substitute for up to two years of experience.
* Computer literate with practical experience using CAT, machine/AI translation, and terminology tools.
* Excellent knowledge of Trados Studio and MultiTerm.
* Knowledge of latest CAT, machine/AI translation, and terminology tool developments.
* Ability to collect information from a variety of sources.
* Experience coordinating the work of others.
* Good team‑working skills.
* Professional fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of at least one other OSCE‑region language is an asset.
* Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.
* Ability and willingness to work as a member of a team with people of different cultural, religious, and political backgrounds, genders, and perspectives while maintaining impartiality and objectivity.
* Computer literate with practical experience using Microsoft applications.
Remuneration Package
Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deduction, is around EUR 2,000 (paid 12 times a year) depending on family status. The salary is exempt from taxation in Austria. Social benefits include participation in the Cigna medical insurance scheme and the OSCE Provident Fund. Appointments are normally made at Step 1 of the OSCE salary scale; exceptional cases may be considered at up to Step 3.
