MTCD - Division of Conference and Document Services coordinates and supports multilingual language services for internal and external users, editing, translating and distributing publications and documents in multiple languages. The IAEA Talent Pipeline aims to enhance the roster of highly specialized language specialists (translators, revisers, editors and précis-writers) who work on administrative, legal, economic, scientific and technical texts in areas such as nuclear technology and applications, nuclear safety and security, safeguards and verifications, physics and engineering.
Responsibilities
* The language specialist translates or revises a range of texts, specifically in the fields listed above, and edits such documents to ensure consistency of style and terminology, clarity of content, and accuracy for distribution to Member States and Secretariat.
* Draft official records of Policy-Making Organ (PMO) meetings when required.
* Translate or revise texts from Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish into English, or from English into one of these languages; occasionally translate from German or other languages into English.
* Research terminology to support development of the central terminology database.
* Perform other linguistic duties as required.
Education, Experience and Language Skills
* University degree in languages or a related field; degrees in other fields will be considered where appropriate.
* Excellent oral and written command of official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish) or other languages, with strong grammar, style and usage.
* Relevant experience translating, revising, editing and/or drafting scientific and technical texts, especially in the nuclear field or within an international organization, is an asset.
* A sample of work (approx. three pages) in the source and target languages should be attached in the application.
* Experience with Microsoft Office and IT translation tools, notably Trados Studio and Multiterm.
* Familiarity with the IAEA and its operations is an asset.
