The University for Continuing Education Krems specializes in part-time academic continuing education. As a public university, it works with its expertise in teaching and research to overcome societal challenges. The university combines many years of experience in continuing academic education with innovation and the highest quality standards in research and teaching. Krems is located in the unique UNESCO World Heritage region of Wachau, 60 km from Vienna.

As a parental leave replacement in our team at the Faculty of Health and Medicine/ Department for Evidence-Based Medicine and Evaluation/ Centre for Evidence-Based Health Services Research, the following position is available:

Scientific Project Staff – Data Scientist (m/f/d)

30 - 40 hrs./week

In cooperation with the Lower Austrian Health and Social Fund (NÖGUS), methods of evidence-based medicine will be combined with the analysis of routine data (primarily data from the LKF system). The overarching goal of the Centre is to contribute to quality assurance and improvement of inpatient care in Lower Austria through this innovative approach.

* Data analyses for the Centre for Evidence-Based Health Services Research
* Communication with the cooperation partner’s data analysts, particularly to ensure adequate data availability and data quality
* Comprehensive onboarding and continuous professional development in the field of routine data analysis (including on-site at the cooperation partner in St. Pölten)
* National and international networking within the research field
* Collaboration in other research projects of the Department
* Participation in grant applications and scientific publications
* (Optional) Lecturing activities and participation in teaching

Your profile

We require evidence of the following qualifications for the application:

* Completed university degree (Master’s/Diploma) in Medical Informatics, Health Informatics, or a comparable field
* Very good knowledge of quantitative research methods in medicine or health sciences
* Demonstrable subject-specific programming skills (e.g., R, Python, etc.)
* Experience with database usage (e.g., SQL queries)
* Excellent knowledge of statistical methods for data analysis and data visualization
* Very good German and English skills (both at least B2 level)
* Ability to work in a team and strong communication skills
* Independent and team-oriented working style

In addition, the following criteria are desirable:

* Basic knowledge of evidence-based medicine
* Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration
* Knowledge of and experience with key routine data sources of the Austrian health and social care system
* Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
* Interest in and/or experience with AI-supported data analysis
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals

Your perspective

* Part-time or full-time (30–40 hours/week), initially limited to the duration of the parental leave replacement
* Minimum salary of EUR 3,776.10 gross per month (14x) on a full-time basis, willingness to overpay with appropriate qualifications and professional experience
