Organizational context

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The mission of UNIDO is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in Member States. UNIDO’s mandate is recognized in SDG-9 and related SDGs, with a programmatic focus structured in four strategic priorities: Creating shared prosperity; Advancing economic competitiveness; Safeguarding the environment; and Strengthening knowledge and institutions.

UNIDO carries out these activities through four enabling functions: (i) technical cooperation; (ii) analytical and research functions and policy advisory services; (iii) normative functions and standards and quality-related activities; and (iv) convening and partnerships for knowledge transfer, networking and industrial cooperation. These functions are implemented in Headquarters, Regional Offices, Hubs and Country Offices.

The Directorate of Corporate Services and Operations (COR) manages UNIDO’s human, financial and material resources and promotes a culture of cooperation and corporate excellence to deliver high-quality work and tangible impact ISID-wide. The Directorate houses the Ethics and Accountability Unit (COR/EAU), the Risk Management and Compliance Unit (COR/RCU), the Divisions of Financial Resource Management (COR/FIN) and Human Resources Management (COR/HRM), as well as Procurement Services (COR/PRO), Digitalization, Innovation and TC Optimization Services (COR/DIT), Facility Management Services (COR/BMS), and Asset Management and Logistics Services (COR/AML). It also oversees personnel security and safety matters.

This internship position is located under the Risk Management and Compliance Unit (COR/RCU), which supports senior management to foster a robust risk culture and to develop, coordinate, and implement UNIDO’s ERM, compliance risk, portfolio risk and information security risk frameworks at the enterprise level. Interns work under the supervision of a staff member in the assigned division or office.


Responsibilities

* Observe day-to-day operations and engage in on-the-job training in actions delegated by the Supervisor.
* Participate in special emerging projects to enhance the learning experience.
* Engage in self-contained assignments described by the supervisor.
* Keep detailed records and track projects identified as at risk, monitoring progress and updating the risk file for decision-making.
* Contribute to and manage the generation of project reports using SAP and AI.
* Assist with maintenance and updating of the risk register, including risk identification, assessment and mitigation planning.
* Assist in communicating and visually promoting COR/RCU initiatives related to risk, cybersecurity and compliance, including support for graphic design, video editing and development of materials.
* Create and update content for the intranet page to ensure information is current and engaging.
* Assist with clearance and issuance of administrative issuances, reviewing documents for compliance with standards and timely dissemination.
* Help with recording and managing files, ensuring accessibility of physical and electronic records.
* Provide support to the unit with ad hoc requests and liaise with relevant offices/units as needed.
* Engage in other special projects to enhance the learning experience.

The Intern(s) will be required to prepare an end-of-internship report, which will be submitted to and cleared by HRM.


Minimum organizational requirements

Education: Enrolled in a second-level university degree programme (master's or equivalent) or higher; or begin the internship within one year of completing a second-level degree; or enrolled in the final academic year of a first degree; or begin the internship within one year of completing a first degree. Only accredited institutions will be considered.

Field of specialization: Risk Management, Communication, Marketing, Economics, Business or Public Administration, International Relations or related fields.

Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.

Other skills: Graphic design, communication and video editing skills are desirable. IT skills, software engineering, AI experience and AI-driven reporting, good drafting skills and risk management experience are assets.


Terms and conditions

* Internships at UNIDO are full-time and shall be for a period of three to six months. Internships sponsored through partner institutions may extend up to twelve months with HRM agreement. Extensions beyond the initially agreed duration are not permitted.
* Interns receive a monthly stipend based on their duty station.
* Interns are responsible for living expenses, accommodation, visas and related costs.

Become acquainted with up-to-date technical, economic and industrial developments in the field of Risk Management and Compliance. Interns are expected to deepen knowledge in new products/services and process design, gain experience in Enterprise and Project Risk Management, Compliance and Information Security, and participate in on-the-job training across all phases of the working process. Gain experience in working in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
