Internship: Development of a Web-Based Scenario Editor for Adaptable Mixed Reality Trainings

Our Center for Digital Safety & Security, located in Vienna, invites applications for an internship. Our experts are developing state-of-the-art information and communication technologies to ensure secure and reliable systems in the context of digitalisation and global networking, focusing on Distributed IT Systems, IoT, Cybersecurity, Data Science, AI, Blockchain, Quantum & Photonic Technologies, Wireless Systems (6G) and digital solutions for crisis and disaster management.
The research field Computer Vision within our Data Science & Artificial Intelligence area leads applied research in innovative aspects for efficient computer vision applications and model design.
Internship: 3D Reconstruction for Mixed Reality Applications for Post Disaster Damage Assessment
* Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team, you will work on 3D reconstruction algorithms (point clouds, Gaussian Splatting) to record and reconstruct a real environment on the fly.
* You will implement a VR application to visualize the reconstructed environment and work on camera calibration techniques to register labels set in Mixed Reality glasses to the reconstructed mesh.
* You will implement techniques to label damages in Mixed Reality.
* You will gain practical experience with one of the leading research companies in Austria.
* You will support us in our international project and gain insights into our technological environment.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
* You hold a bachelor’s degree and are enrolled as a Master’s student at an Austrian university in Informatics / Software Engineering / Game Engineering / Computer Graphics / Computer Vision / Visual Computing or a related field.
* Very good knowledge of C++ and Python
* Know-how about point clouds & stereo cameras
* Strong know-how in efficient development on mobile platforms (ideally with Nvidia Jetson Boards)
* Good know-how in camera calibration
* Good know-how in Unity3D
* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate on different topics
* Good verbal and written English skills (team language is English); German skills are a plus
What to expect:
* Duration of the internship: 6-12 months
* Start date: ideally November 2025; some flexibility with the start date
* Remuneration of EUR 1,415 gross per month for 38.5 hours per week, plus company benefits and flexible working conditions
