JOB DESCRIPTION
Welding Technician
Summary/Objective:
The Welding Technician is responsible for assisting in the welding process, ensuring high-quality welds, and improving welding procedures. The incumbent will have experience in industries such as manufacturing, construction, and automotive, often handling tasks like setting up welding equipment, inspecting welds, interpreting blueprints, and troubleshooting issues.
Essential Function:
· Set up and operate welding equipment (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.).
· Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
· Perform quality inspections on welds to ensure they meet industry standards.
· Assist in developing and improving welding techniques and processes.
· Troubleshoot equipment issues and make necessary adjustments.
· Work with engineers and fabricators to optimize welding designs.
· Maintain safety standards and ensure compliance with regulations.
Qualifications:
· 3-5 years of proven experience in welding including providing improvement in overall welding systems and processes
Education Required
· High school diploma or GED
· Completion of 1 year of college or technical school training program or equivalent education and/or experience .
Skills/Competencies
· Previous proven development experience with hands-on training programs and materials with various welding techniques.
· Technical welding skills: proficiency in various welding methods including: MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Core
· Blueprint reading: ability to interpret schematics, welding symbols, and engineering drawings.
· Detail oriented with ability to ensure precise welds and quality control.
· Ability to solve problems by diagnosing welding defects and finding solutions.
· Strong mechanical aptitude demonstrating and understanding how welding equipment functions and how to maintain it
· Strong mathematical skills with ability to measure and calculate complex dimensions accurately.
· Knowledge of OSHA and other safety requirements and regulations
Certifications/License Requirements:
· Welding certification programs through trade schools, community colleges, or apprenticeships
· Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) .
· OSHA Safety certification .
Work Environment:
· Production environment working around machinery and all welding equipment and procedures.
Position Type/Expected Hours:
· Ability to work 1st shift hours ranging from 7-3p.m.
Physical Demands:
· Ability to stand and work around heavy equipment for long periods of time. The work requires physical abilities that include standing, walking, bending, lifting, etc. within a production industrial environment.
