University Assistant (postdoctoral) – Department of Islamic‑Theological Studies, 30 Faculty of Catholic Theology, University of Vienna.
Start date: 01.09.2026. Working hours: 40 per week. Contract: Fixed‑term 4 years. Collective bargaining agreement: 48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) Reference no.: 5378.
Responsibilities
* Develop and advance an independent teaching and research profile.
* Publish internationally and deliver lectures.
* Support the planning and organisation of meetings, conferences, symposia and workshops.
* Collaborate on research projects and acquisition of third‑party funding.
* Organise courses, examinations, and supervise students in Bachelor and Master programmes.
* Participate in organisational and administrative tasks in teaching, research and department management and evaluation processes.
* Participate in the publication of the journal "Forum Islamic-Theological Studies".
Qualifications
* Excellent German language skills (at least C1). Exceptional English (C1).
* Completed doctoral/PhD in Islamic-Theological Studies or a comparable discipline.
* Research in Islamic theology focusing on relevance for European societies.
* Theological and interdisciplinary engagement with religious plurality and interreligious dialogue.
* Empirical and conceptual research on Muslim life in Europe, especially institutionalisation and organisation of Islamic communities.
* Analysing interactions between Islamic law and European legal systems, including ethical issues in bioethics, economic ethics, environmental ethics.
* Development of theological and pedagogical concepts for Islamic educational work, especially imam and counselling training and teaching in mosques.
* Critical reflection on socio‑political discourses on Islam.
* In‑depth analysis of Islamic theological discourses on reform and renewal globally and in Europe.
* Experience acquiring third‑party funding for interdisciplinary research projects.
* Willingness for international networking and collaboration.
* Outstanding dissertation.
* Proven research expertise and initiative through international publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
* Experience in research management.
* Didactic skills and experience in e‑learning.
* Good IT skills.
* High level of written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to work in a team, social and communication skills, ability to take criticism.
* Independent and structured way of working.
