As an Embedded System Engineer, you’ll be building the nervous system for the future of physical retail, enabling stores to connect with customers in fundamentally new and delightful ways. Think personalized experiences, real-time inventory management, and a seamless, intuitive shopping journey—all powered by your firmware.
Responsibilities
* Architect and implement firmware for IoT microcontrollers powering YQ App’s solutions for physical retail, integrating embedded wireless transceivers and other technologies.
* Secure communication: architect and implement robust, secure channels with over-the-air updates, leveraging protocols like TLS, CoAP, and MQTT to protect data and ensure seamless connectivity. Knowledge of OSI model, CoAP vs HTTP/3, and cryptographic principles is essential.
* Interface: develop and refine APIs to deliver high-performance, low-power solutions for retail environments.
* Systems programming: work on ARM and RISC-V SoCs to drive efficient and reliable device performance.
* Code craftsmanship: write clean, maintainable C and C++ code with attention to memory management (DMA) and MISRA guidelines; optimize for resource-constrained environments.
* Collaboration and innovation: collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams to define firmware requirements, proactively debug issues, and participate in design/code reviews.
* Production readiness: provide firmware support for production deployment and operation of IoT products.
* Relentless optimization: minimize overhead, reduce jitter, maximize throughput, and maintain low CPU load while meeting power consumption targets.
* Diverse communication proficiency: familiarity with UDP and data serialization techniques like Cap’n Proto for efficient data transfer with low latency.
* Familiar with common IT tools to profile and monitor performance and manage version control (e.g., Git) and resolving merge conflicts.
Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
* Experience: 2–3 years in Embedded Software Development or similar, with a focus on resource-constrained environments.
* Architecture: solid experience with ARM and RISC-V embedded systems.
* Communication and sensing: knowledge of wireless protocols (WiFi, Bluetooth, UWB, NFC) and sensor interfaces; experience with LiDAR is a plus.
* Programming: expert in C and C++, strong memory management and CPU/memory optimization for low-power IoT devices.
Skills and Abilities
* Problem-solving: able to work independently or in teams.
* Strong written and verbal communication.
* Deep understanding of resource-constrained environments with a focus on performance and power efficiency.
