Job Description – Technical Writer
Location: NOVA, Maryland, DC / Remote
Part-time: 15 hours/week
Start date: Mid March
Our client provides software-based cybersecurity solutions for networks that operate critical infrastructure including the Department of Defense, financial institutions, renewable energy, and telecommunications. The client has built the most secure PKI offering available commercially and is working to expand its product portfolio.
Role Overview: As a Technical Writer, your role is to create user-friendly documentation that enables customers, developers, and internal teams to understand and use software products effectively. You will collaborate closely with project managers, developers, and support teams to ensure documentation aligns with user needs and business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop, write, and maintain high-quality user documentation, including templates, API documentation, and release notes.
2. Collaborate with engineers and project managers to gather information and translate complex technical concepts into clear, understandable content.
3. Organize current technical documents to develop standardized templates, workflow documentation, and enhance formatting for professionalism and clarity.
4. Edit and proofread technical content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and usability.
5. Manage documentation repositories and version control systems (e.g., Confluence, GitHub).
6. Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in technical writing and software documentation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering, English, or related field.
* Proven experience as a Technical Writer in a software or tech-driven company.
* Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, and development workflows.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
* Proficiency with documentation tools such as Confluence, Git, or similar; familiarity with JIRA.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
