Paid Diploma / Master's Thesis
Powder compaction simulations
Ref. No. DA191
To dedicated students of electrical/chemical/process/information engineering, mathematics, physics or related disciplines, we offer an opportunity to write a paid Diploma/Master's Thesis.
OBJECTIVE
Accurate simulation of powder compaction is important for predicting material behavior in technical forming processes. Different modeling approaches exist, such as multi-contact models within the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and models based on compressible tetrapods. However, it is not yet clear which approach can best reproduce the observed macroscopic behavior during compression and densification.
Both approaches involve many material and contact parameters that strongly influence the simulation results. At the same time, the macroscopic response – such as stress-strain behavior and density evolution during compaction tests – is complex and multi-dimensional. A systematic comparison of the models is therefore necessary.
The goal of this Master's thesis is to compare multi-contact and compressible tetrapod models in compaction simulations with a focus on material calibration and compression tests. The outcome should provide a better understanding of which model can capture which physical effects and under which conditions each approach is most suitable.
WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THIS DIPLOMA / MASTER'S THESIS WE OFFER THE FOLLOWING:
