Wireless Embedded Systems Engineer – IoT Connectivity & Protocol Design | Hybrid – Graz, Austria
Do you enjoy working on low-power wireless technologies that keep the IoT world connected? Are you passionate about embedded development, RF protocols, and squeezing performance out of constrained systems?
We’re looking for a Wireless Embedded Systems Engineer with expertise in BLE, ZigBee, LoRa, or similar protocols to help our client deliver next-generation connectivity solutions for smart sensors, wearables, and industrial IoT platforms.
This hybrid role is based in Graz, a leading Austrian hub for embedded innovation, sensor technology, and edge communications.
What You’ll Do:
* Develop and maintain wireless communication stacks (BLE, ZigBee, LoRa, Thread, etc.) on embedded platforms
* Optimize low-power radio performance for real-time and energy-efficient communication
* Work with MCU platforms (e.g., STM32, Nordic, TI) and SoCs with built-in radios
* Design protocol layers and message handling for reliable, secure data transfer
* Collaborate closely with hardware engineers on antenna tuning, RF layout, and range testing
* Implement secure OTA update mechanisms and firmware provisioning systems
What You Bring:
* Strong experience with wireless embedded systems and low-power communication protocols
* Proficiency in C/C++ for bare-metal or RTOS environments (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr)
* Familiarity with radio stack integration and debugging tools (sniffers, spectrum analyzers, RF profilers)
* Knowledge of wireless regulations and compliance (e.g., ETSI, FCC)
* Hands-on experience with development kits from Nordic, Silicon Labs, TI, or Semtech
Nice-to-Have:
* Experience with mesh networking or long-range comms (e.g., LoRaWAN, 6LoWPAN)
* Familiarity with MQTT, CoAP, or other IoT protocols
* Background in edge computing or sensor fusion
* Exposure to embedded security, secure boot, or key provisioning
