At KAI, we create reliability test methods and systems for novel power semiconductors. For a test system in development, we plan to evaluate different methods for per-site thermal management, including investigations on mixing different media of heat transportation (solid, air, liquid). Therefore, during your thesis project, we expect you to become a growing expert for temperature control and heat flow modelling, with a strong focus on System Integration and Calibration.
Key responsibilities
* Research and Learning: Learn about Infineon’s Smart Power Switches and how they are tested for reliability.
* Skill Development: Improve your skills in circuit simulations, PCB design, and thermal management using state‑of‑the‑art tools.
* Study and Evaluation: Study different heating/cooling topologies and develop an evaluation scheme to scientifically compare them.
* Design and Prototyping: Design, build and evaluate a working prototype of an accurate dynamic thermal management system.
* Documentation and Reporting: Document your results by writing and submitting your master thesis.
Qualifications and skills
* Education: Pursuing a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, (Power) Electronics, System Engineering with strong ambition for systems design and automation, or a related field.
* Technical skills: Knowledge and experience in lab measurements, circuit design, PCB layout, and electro‑thermal simulations such as SPICE, Simscape, PLECS.
* Language: Fluency in English and/or German.
* Teamwork: Ability to work in an international environment.
This position is subject to the collective agreement for workers and employees in the electrical and electronics industry (full‑time), employment group D for master students.
Type of employment: Temporary / Full‑time (flexible working hours from Monday to Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.)
Duration: max. 8 months.
