Position: Legal Counsel – Austria
We are establishing the legal function at our Austria subsidiary and seeking a hands‑on, business‑oriented Legal Counsel to build and manage local legal and compliance operations from the ground up.
Who You Are
You bring experience in legal, compliance and contract management with a strong business focus, and you can work independently to set up processes in a fast‑growing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Build and structure the Austria legal and compliance function
o Collaborate with Europe Regional Centre to set up local structure.
o Localise and implement internal legal processes, documentation standards and approval workflows.
o Localise and implement contract lifecycle management structure and risk review procedures.
o Design local governance and compliance architecture aligned with EU and Austrian requirements.
2. Legal advisory and contracting
o Provide day‑to‑day legal advice to management and business teams (importation, supply chain, manufacturing, distribution).
o Conduct legal risk assessments and propose commercially sound compliance solutions.
o Draft, review, negotiate and manage various commercial contracts and legal documents.
3. Compliance and control
o Localise pan‑European compliance initiatives by implementing Austria‑level compliance programs covering data protection, competition law, trade compliance, ESG, labour law, advertising and consumer law.
o Contribute to Europe‑wide internal control and risk management framework.
o Support regulatory filings and authority communications when necessary.
4. Daily operation support
o Support corporate governance affairs by drafting, filing and archiving.
o Source, instruct and manage Austrian external law firms.
o Control local legal budget and ensure cost‑efficient outsourcing.
o Propose creative, scalable approaches to contract management, compliance monitoring and documentation workflows.
o Support Legal Counsels from Europe Regional Centre and other subsidiaries upon request.
What You Bring
* Education and experience
o Master’s degree in Austrian law (Magister iuris / equivalent).
o Austrian bar admission (Rechtsanwaltsprüfung) preferred.
o Minimum 3 years of legal experience from a law firm and/or in‑house, with demonstrated ability to work independently.
o Experience in manufacturing, automotive, supply chain, logistics or regulated industries strongly preferred.
o Experience in setting up processes or working in fast‑growing environments is a strong advantage.
* Language and professional skills
o Near‑native German and fluent English are mandatory; Chinese or other languages are a plus.
o Strong knowledge of Austrian commercial and regulatory law.
o Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
o Demonstrated ability to build legal processes and governance structures.
o Structured, risk‑aware and commercially pragmatic.
