Among the five Sections, the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS) provides site operation technical and administrative services to the work of the IAEA's laboratories. SLSS services include facilities, technical, engineering, property and transport management, and site security through its management of the Seibersdorf Protective Force (SPF). The Section has a diverse complement of 35 staff, including technicians, drivers, procurement assistants and IT support. The armed SPF provides around-the-clock security for the site. Main Purpose Under the supervision of Supervisor, Technical Support Group and guidance of Electro-Technician Foreman, the Electro-technician ensures the proper functioning of all highly sophisticated electrical systems, such as those found in the IAEA's clean laboratories or in radiation controlled, bio-hazardous laboratories. He/she will further be involved in preventive maintenance initiatives and the upgrading of all laboratory electrical standard installations. Functions / Key Results Expected Maintain, repair and upgrade electrical equipment. Check the operation and condition of equipment and systems to detect faults, repair various equipment and systems and a multitude of other high-precision electrical components. Monitor and coordinate with contracting firms, ensuring work is carried out without, or with only minor, interruptions. Carry out preventative maintenance activities, including the upgrading of technical infrastructures, as required by the laboratory programmes. Conduct in-house relevant workshops, maintain stocks, and complete documentation (if the supervisor is absent). Assist others outside the area of specialization, as needed. Participate in the laboratory maintenance on-call schemes. The incumbent may perform his/her work in areas involving exposure to radioactive materials. Therefore, as an Occupationally Exposed Worker, he/she must be medically cleared by VIC Medical Service and is subject to an appropriate radiation and health monitoring programme, in accordance with the IAEA's Radiation Safety Regulations. Qualifications, Experience and Language skills Completed apprenticeship and vocational schooling as an electrician, electrical technologist, or equivalent. Minimum of four years of relevant experience, with extensive experience in maintaining and repairing electrical systems. Good understanding of modern techniques utilized in all electrical systems, including all safety aspects thereof. Excellent oral and written command of English and German. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset. English language testing (to IAEA standard) might be part of the selection process.
