JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Middle School Technology Teacher to join our dynamic faculty team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching technology and digital literacy to students in grades 5–8, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and 21st-century skills in a collaborative learning environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To excel in this role, the individual must meet the following key responsibilities:
* Design and deliver engaging technology instruction aligned with curriculum standards and school goals
* Teach topics such as digital citizenship, coding, robotics, computer applications, web design, and multimedia production
* Integrate project-based learning and real-world applications to enhance student understanding
* Create lesson plans that support differentiation and accommodate diverse learning styles
* Maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student exploration and innovation
* Collaborate with other teachers to integrate technology across the curriculum
* Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments; provide timely feedback and support
* Manage and maintain classroom technology and instructional equipment
* Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
* Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in education
* Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small-group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual pupil.
* Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.
* Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
* Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
* Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
* Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
* Work with students and other classroom teachers in such activities as preparing material for the school newspaper or yearbook, assisting with PTA programs, or coordinating entries in essay contests.
* Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
* Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
* Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
* Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional tasks as assigned.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: The role requires frequent walking and standing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is generally stable, with minimal exposure to unusual temperatures, noise, or hazards. The position requires extended and non-traditional hours to fulfill job duties, as well as participation in organization-sponsored events and meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
* Bachelor’s degree in Educational Technology, Computer Science, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
* Valid state teaching certification or ability to obtain certification in relevant subject area
* Prior teaching experience at the middle school level preferred
* Strong knowledge of current educational technology tools and Google Suite.
* Ability to motivate and inspire students with a range of abilities and interests
* Excellent communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
* A growth mindset and commitment to ongoing professional learning
LICENSES/CREDENTIAL: Valid Illinois Teacher's License (PEL).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: All terms of employment are outlined by the collective bargaining agreement with the Steger Education Association.
