Role Overview
The company is hiring a Staff Engineer to lead and evolve the core architecture of their platform - the system that orchestrates thousands of energy-connected devices today and will support millions in the future.
This role spans platform primitives, backend services, APIs, event-driven workflows, and integrations with hardware and control systems. You’ll work closely with Product to ensure the platform aligns with real customer needs and commercial priorities, shipping in small, iterative steps and validating impact quickly.
This is ideal for someone who enjoys deep technical ownership, distributed systems, and thinking ahead of scale.
What You Will Do
* Own multi-month engineering initiatives end-to-end, from architecture to deployment and ongoing operations.
* Evolve the platform architecture to support millions of connected devices with strong reliability and observability.
* Build the core systems for real-time orchestration, telemetry, scheduling, and integration logic.
* Develop and integrate external APIs from hardware, IoT devices, and energy control systems into a unified platform layer.
* Strengthen platform resilience through improved tracing, monitoring, redundancy, and performance work.
* Work closely with Product on framing user problems, commercial goals, and technical feasibility.
* Break complex problems into small, testable iterations and ship value continuously.
* Engage directly with customers when needed to understand real-world constraints and workflows.
* Contribute to engineering excellence with design reviews, code reviews, and internal best practices.
* Generalise solutions into reusable platform capabilities that other teams can build upon.
What You Bring
* 6+ years of software engineering experience, with 2–3+ years at Senior/Staff level owning major systems.
* Experience designing and operating complex, production-grade platforms running at scale.
* Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, observability, and scalability.
* Deep understanding of resilient architecture patterns and hands‑on experience building highly reliable systems.
* Experience integrating external APIs — ideally involving hardware, IoT, or real‑world control logic.
* Familiarity with continuous delivery, cloud‑native practices, and operating modern production systems.
* Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑moving startup environment with high ownership.
* Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating with Product, other engineers, and customers.
* Interest in the energy domain and the challenges of orchestrating physical devices reliably and at scale.
* Experience with modern backend ecosystems - Python
