Introduction:
A privately owned European logistics and freight operator, recently acquired by an investment group, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its operations in Austria.
This position serves as the in-country finance lead, taking responsibility for statutory accounting, tax compliance, and payroll oversight while operating within a group shared‑services structure. The role requires full ownership of the monthly close process, strong financial controls, and close coordination with central finance, external advisors, and payroll providers to ensure accurate reporting and full regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Take full ownership of the Austrian month‑end close, including accruals, reconciliations, provisions, and reporting to Group Finance.
Ensure general ledger integrity and compliance with local statutory requirements and group accounting policies.
Oversee accounts payable and receivable activities performed by the Shared Service Centre, reviewing outputs and resolving discrepancies.
Manage cash controls, including vendor payments, bank reconciliations, and working capital oversight.
Coordinate VAT filings, tax submissions, annual financial statements, and external audit processes in collaboration with advisors.
Oversee payroll coordination with outsourced providers, reviewing inputs, outputs, reconciliations, and statutory payroll filings.
Maintain fixed‑asset controls and ensure alignment between operational systems and financial records, investigating and resolving variances.
Act as the key finance liaison between local operations, shared services, and external stakeholders while driving process improvements and strengthening internal controls.
Qualifications and Experience:
Professional accounting qualification required, with 5+ years of progressive accounting experience and proven ownership of month‑end close processes.
Strong knowledge of Austrian accounting (UGB) preferred, VAT, tax compliance, and audit requirements.
Experience working within a Shared Service Centre environment and/or coordinating outsourced service providers preferred.
High attention to detail with a strong control mindset and sound professional judgement.
Systems proficiency across ERP/accounting platforms and advanced Excel capability, with the ability to work comfortably across operational systems.
Fluency in English required; German and/or Hungarian language skills advantageous.
