Your future responsibilities
Are you ready to contribute to cutting-edge research in communications and sensing systems? Join our innovative team as a Junior Research Engineer HW/SW Co-Design and help shape future technologies!
1. Design control units based on microcontrollers ranging from 8-bit MCUs to 32-bit/64-bit ARM architectures for use in research projects on communications and sensing systems.
2. Set up software development projects from scratch, including the definition of a hardware abstraction layer, in parallel with the hardware development process.
3. Verify hardware/software implementation in the lab.
4. Manage lab supplies, including procurement of materials and small parts required for project work.
5. Participate in technical project work within small to medium-sized teams.
6. Represent the SAL project team internally and externally.
Your profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
* At least 3 years of experience in electronics development, focusing on PCB design and microcontroller integration.
* Familiarity with industry-standard tools (Altium Designer, VS Code, Eclipse IDE) and open-source tools (KiCAD, GNU C compilers).
* Hands-on experience with PCB assembly and hardware bring-up using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
* Interest in expanding from technical development to research-driven innovation.
* Experience in:
o PCB design (preferably with Altium Designer).
o Microcontroller hardware integration and programming (from HAL to application layer).
o Matlab, Python, and Linux (basic knowledge).
* Training in work safety is a plus.
* Fluent in German and English (spoken and written).

This position is covered by the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA), starting in occupational group C 1. The gross monthly salary starts at EUR 2,776 (full-time), paid 14 times per year.
