Freelance Senior Piping & Mechanical Engineering Lead – Linz, Upper Austria – Interim Contract
We are seeking an experienced Senior Piping & Mechanical Engineering Lead to support a major industrial delivery program in Linz, Upper Austria. This interim role offers the opportunity to take ownership of engineering and execution-driven work packages across mechanical and piping scopes within a high-complexity capital project environment. If you have a strong background in piping engineering, prefabrication, site execution and tendering, this is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a fast-moving, delivery-focused setting.

Your Responsibilities Lead and coordinate mechanical and piping engineering activities across multiple project workstreams
Own the engineering interface between design, prefabrication, site installation and commissioning teams
Support tendering, cost estimation and technical evaluations for mechanical and piping packages
Provide technical leadership for piping systems, layouts, materials and constructability
Support fabrication and modularisation strategies to optimise site execution
Act as a key engineering interface between contractors, vendors and project management
Ensure engineering deliverables support safe, efficient and compliant site execution
Contribute to planning, sequencing and constructability reviews
Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues during fabrication and installation
Your Requirements 10+ years of experience in mechanical and piping engineering within industrial, energy, life sciences or process environments
Strong background in piping design, engineering and execution
Experience with prefabrication, modularisation or off-site fabrication
Exposure to tendering, cost estimation and technical bid evaluation
Solid understanding of site-based construction and installation
Proven ability to operate in engineer-manager roles combining technical leadership with delivery responsibility
Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
Fluent in English (German is an advantage)
