Role Description

Frontier Therapeutics Ltd, in partnership with the University of York is looking for a driven graduate with relevant electrical engineering skills who will be able to design, develop and produce a prototype radio frequency-based medical device to support the care of hard-to-heal wounds. Chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, impose a significant burden on the NHS, costing £8.3 billion annually, and severely impact quality of life.

This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project is an exciting and rare opportunity that will bring together knowledge of medical device design, electronics and plasma science to deliver a prototype device. Working in synergy with a second KTP associate with expertise in microbiology, you will evaluate the developed device to demonstrate its efficacy, safety and benefit for patients.

Frontier Medical Group is a market-leading provider of a range of specialist medical devices to healthcare professionals in the UK and internationally.

Role

As a KTP Associate, you will lead this high-profile and strategically meaningful project, allowing you to apply your academic achievements in an industrial setting. You are expected to have the confidence and ability to manage your own workloads to ensure outputs. You will receive practical and formal training, gain marketable skills, broaden your knowledge and expertise within an industrially relevant project, and be supported by both industrial and academic mentors. You will work closely with the second associate and have joint responsibility for engaging with and embedding new knowledge within both the business partner and the Universities.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed

* MEng, MPhys, MSc or PhD in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Plasma Science.
* Knowledge and experience in the development of radio frequency circuits operating in the HF band.
* Hands on experience designing, building and testing electrical circuits; specifically, RF electronics at moderate power levels.
* Knowledge and experience in microcontrollers, control system design, and sensor integration.
* Knowledge and experience of plasma generation hardware and diagnostic methods.

Further information

It is essential that you understand how KTP works with business & the University, and the vital role you will play. For information about KTPs please visit https://www.ktp-uk.org/

This is a full-time role for a fixed-term period of 34-months. It is expected to start no later than September 2025 and you will be primarily based at the company partner’s premises in Cardiff.

There is a two-stage interview process, held on different dates with an in-person interview at Frontier Medical Group in Cardiff.

Restrictions

* Previous KTP associates are ineligible to apply.

Interview date: To be confirmed

For informal enquiries: please contact Prof. James Walsh (james.l.walsh@york.ac.uk) or the School of PET Admin Team (pet-admin@york.ac.uk)
