Scientist (f/m/d) for Testing and Design of Battery Electrical Energy Storage for Hybrid Electric Aircraft
CENTER FOR TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGIES
As Austria's largest research and technology organisation for applied research, we are dedicated to addressing major challenges such as climate change and digitalisation. Our research group, Hybrid Electric Aircraft Technologies, part of the Center for Transport Technologies, focuses on developing technologies for high energy density batteries for next-generation airliners, contributing to carbon neutrality in air transport.
We are seeking a new team member to perform research and participate in large-scale European projects funded by Horizon Europe and Clean Aviation programs.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop methods for accelerated multi-physical and virtual testing of batteries, focusing on aerospace safety and performance.
2. Design and support execution of optimized test campaigns; manage testing data and ensure data interoperability.
3. Collaborate with testing, simulation experts, and instrumentation teams to design airworthy batteries and integrate them into hybrid electric systems for climate-neutral aircraft.
4. Engage with aerospace scientists and engineers across Europe.
5. Work with European institutions and international partners on collaborative research projects such as HIGHSPIN, HELENA, and MATISSE.
6. Contribute to defining strategic research directions and support proposal preparations for new projects.
7. Publish research findings in high-ranking journals and support colleagues in publication efforts.
8. Report results to stakeholders and present achievements at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications:
* Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields, with a focus on modeling, design, testing, or data science.
* Proven experience (6+ years post-M.Sc. or 3+ years post-Ph.D.) in at least one of the following: battery testing at cell/module/system level, test design, or virtual testing and data management. Candidates with less experience but strong potential may be considered as Junior Scientists.
* Experience with laboratory battery testing and/or electric power systems.
* Programming skills in Python, LabView, MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, or similar; familiarity with industrial tools like ANSYS or Modelica is a plus.
* Experience in aerospace industrial projects or European research programs is advantageous.
* High motivation for scientific research; excellent communication skills in English; German language skills are desirable.
What We Offer:
* A minimum gross annual salary of EUR 59,934, with individual adjustments based on qualifications and experience.
* Additional benefits including flexible working conditions, training, and career development opportunities.
* Start date in Q1-2025 (flexible).
* Application deadline: February 28th, 2025, at 12:00 AM (CET). Early applications are encouraged.
We value diversity and inclusion and encourage women to apply. Applications should include a CV and motivation letter, with optional additional certificates.
