Senior PCB Layout Engineer (Italy based)
The company is a high‑tech AI platform creator, based in the Netherlands with offices across Europe, including Italy. It has raised $120 million, employs 220+ staff (49+ PhDs), and built the Metis AI Platform which delivers 3–5× efficiency gains.
Position Overview
Senior PCB Layout Engineer responsible for translating schematics into high‑performance PCBs for AI systems, managing eCAD libraries, and collaborating with EMS partners to ensure manufacturing quality.
Key Responsibilities
Component Library Management
Maintain and update the CAD component library with latest footprints, 3D models, and data.
Collaborate with Mechanical and Thermal designers to introduce new components.
Synchronize data across eCAD platforms and ensure consistency.
Enable eCAD‑MCAD interoperability (NX, PTC Creo, SolidWorks).
Schematic to PCB Design
Translate schematic diagrams into layouts following SI, PI, and EMC/EMI guidelines.
Optimize board utilization, stack‑up, and component placement.
Design high‑density, multi‑layer PCBs using Altium Designer, Xpedition, OrCAD, or KiCad.
Layout
High‑speed layout per SI requirements for LPDDR4+ memory and PCIe 3.0+ interfaces.
Advanced low‑voltage (≤1 V) high‑current delivery for GPUs and processors under PI constraints.
Simulation‑driven design using HyperLynx, Keysight ADS, or equivalent.
Collaboration with EMS
Prepare designs for manufacturing, meeting DFM/DFT guidelines.
Interface during production, addressing technical issues and supporting PCB assembly.
Test and Validation
Coordinate functional, electrical, and mechanical validation including VNA, TDR, thermal cycling, and stress tests.
Documentation
Create and maintain complete design documentation: schematics, layout files, BOMs, stack‑ups, mechanical drawings, and manufacturing packages.
Ensure documentation meets internal standards and supports cross‑functional workflows.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
5–10 years PCB layout experience (multilayer, HDI).
Proficient with Altium, Xpedition, OrCAD, or KiCad.
Expertise in SI/PI/EMI‑compliant layout, stack‑ups, controlled impedance, and advanced via structures.
Ability to balance electrical, thermal, and mechanical constraints.
Strong knowledge of PCB manufacturing, DFM/DFT, and material selection.
Hands‑on with high‑speed interfaces (LPDDR4+, PCIe 3.0+) and PDN design for high‑current, low‑voltage systems.
Ability to interpret SI/PI simulations (HyperLynx, ADS) and co‑design with simulation engineers.
Experience with eCAD‑MCAD workflows (NX, Creo, SolidWorks).
Familiar with VNA, TDR, scopes, logic analyzers, and relevant PCB standards.
Understanding of thermal cycling, mechanical stress, and reliability testing.
Excellent problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and capacity to work in fast‑paced environments.
