Position Overview

This position is responsible for developing next‑generation Agentic AI applications that enhance, automate, and accelerate geometric engineering workflows across Magna. A core focus of the role is researching and applying state‑of‑the‑art AI techniques for geometric understanding to improve CAD‑based engineering processes.

The engineer will investigate modern methods in AI‑driven geometry design and interaction for engineering tasks, including shape embeddings, geometric graph neural networks, LLM‑assisted geometry reasoning, and multimodal AI approaches that combine text, geometry, and simulation data.

A key responsibility is to programmatically transform CAD geometry into structured representations—such as graphs, ontologies, or knowledge graphs—that can be utilized by AI agents for downstream engineering tasks such as automated design checks, manufacturability reasoning, variant comparison, tolerance analysis support, intelligent parameter recommendations, or automated documentation generation.

The engineer will translate internal customer needs into actionable AI system designs and develop robust, scalable, and high‑value AI assistants integrated into engineering workflows. This includes designing agent behaviors, reasoning pipelines, and CAD‑aware tool interactions that support real engineering decisions.

The role requires close collaboration with internal customers, R&D teams, CAD experts, and external research partners to prototype, validate, and refine AI‑driven geometric engineering solutions. The engineer will also contribute to productizing developed prototypes by demonstrating capabilities, gathering structured feedback, and ensuring smooth integration into existing engineering ecosystems.

In addition, support the R&D project team engineers and researchers with technical evaluation of technologies being considered by Magna. The evaluation will consist of a scientific deep dive, application analysis, manufacturability, market and cost factors associated with the technology.

The Sr. Research Engineer will plan, execute and coordinate R&D programs for with internal and external R&D departments, (supplier) companies, institutions and academia.
