Watlow Plasmatech GmbH, based in Kuchl, Austria, is a Technology Development Center within Watlow, focused on advanced Plasma Spray heater technology and integrated thermal system solutions. We develop and scale innovative thermal solutions for our targeted customers across Europe and globally in the Semiconductor and Industrial markets, supporting them from early design through industrialization.
We are hiring a: Junior R&D Engineer – Laser Ablation & Engineering Project Support (F/M/D)
About The Role
This role ensures the structured transfer, development, and long-term ownership of laser ablation know-how, currently held by a senior subject matter expert. In parallel, the role strengthens engineering execution capacity across internal and customer‑facing development projects.
What You’ll Do
Laser Ablation – Core Responsibility:
* Take over and further develop laser ablation process expertise through structured knowledge transfer.
* Support development, optimization, and stabilization of laser ablation processes.
* Build deep understanding of laser‑material interaction and quality drivers.
* Document processes, parameters, and best practices.
Laser Equipment & Technical Ownership:
* Support technical ownership of laser ablation systems.
* Assist with setup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
CAD, Laser Programming & Engineering Tools:
* Create and modify CAD geometries supporting laser ablation activities.
* Generate, adapt, and maintain laser programs.
Engineering Project Support:
* Support and grow over time to lead internal and external product and technology development projects.
* Contribute to prototyping, testing, and validation activities.
What You’ll Need To Succeed?
Education:
* HTL, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Engineering, or similar.
Experience & Mindset:
* First experience in R&D, engineering, automation, or technical project environments.
* Strong interest in laser technologies and applied engineering.
* Basic CAD experience or strong willingness to learn.
* Hands‑on, structured, and reliable working style.
* Curiosity and openness toward leveraging digital tools and AI‑supported solutions to improve engineering efficiency and problem‑solving.
* Motivation to grow into a technical expert role.
Languages:
* German: fluent.
* English: working proficiency.

Über Die Rolle

Ihre Aufgaben
Laserablation – Kernverantwortung:
* Übernahme und Weiterentwicklung der Expertise im Bereich Laserablation durch strukturierten Wissenstransfer.
* Unterstützung bei Entwicklung, Optimierung und Stabilisierung von Laserablation-Prozessen.
* Aufbau eines tiefgehenden Verständnisses von Laser-Material-Wechselwirkungen und Qualitätsfaktoren.
* Dokumentation von Prozessen, Parametern und Best Practices.
Laseranlagen & Technische Verantwortung:
* Unterstützung bei der technischen Verantwortung für Laserablation‑Anlagen.
* Mitwirkung bei Aufbau, Inbetriebnahme, Fehleranalyse und kontinuierlicher Verbesserung.
CAD, Laserprogrammierung & Engineering-Tools:
* Erstellung und Anpassung von CAD-Geometrien zur Unterstützung von Laserablation‑Prozessen.
* Erstellung, Anpassung und Pflege von Laserprogrammen.
Unterstützung Von Engineering-Projekten:
* Unterstützung und schrittweise Übernahme von Verantwortung für interne und externe Produkt‑ sowie Technologieentwicklungsprojekte.
* Mitarbeit bei Prototyping, Tests und Validierung.
Ausbildung
Was Sie mitbringen sollten:
* HTL, Bachelor- oder Masterabschluss in Maschinenbau, Elektrotechnik, Mechatronik, Verfahrenstechnik oder vergleichbar.
Erfahrung & Mindset
* Erste Erfahrung in F&E, Engineering, Automatisierung oder technischen Projektumfeldern.
* Starkes Interesse an Lasertechnologien und angewandtem Engineering.
* Grundkenntnisse in CAD oder hohe Lernbereitschaft.
* Hands‑on-Mentalität sowie strukturierte und zuverlässige Arbeitsweise.
* Neugier und Offenheit für den Einsatz digitaler Tools und KI‑gestützter Lösungen zur Effizienzsteigerung und Problemlösung.
* Motivation, sich in Richtung technische:r Expert:in weiterzuentwickeln.
Sprachen
* Deutsch: fließend.
